When sketch comedy pair Key & Peele first premiered their show on Comedy Central in 2012, could anyone have predicted one would become horror’s most respected new eye? Jordan Peele has done a complete career 180 since doing impressions of Barack Obama with Keegan-Michael Key as his anger translator, recently helming Get Out and Us, along with being behind CBS’ Twilight Zone reboot.
Keegan-Michael Key has been incredibly busy as well, recently starring in The Predator and lending his voice to a hyena named Kamari alongside Beyoncé in The Lion King. That said, he hasn’t forgotten his partner-in-comedy and looks like he’d join Jordan Peele on just about any endeavor. In his words:
We're doing another movie together. I mean, Toy Story, that's for Pixar. That's a one-off for them. But we're doing a movie right now together, stop-motion animation film with Henry Selick, who did James and the Giant Peach and Nightmare Before Christmas, and Coraline. He's a genius. It's called Wendell and Wild, based off of a graphic novel, and we're doing that. But, depending on the script, I would love to be in what I would now call a traditional Jordan Peele film.
It’s exciting to see Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele continue their partnership in voice roles! They just stole the show in Toy Story 4 as carnival stuffed animals Ducky and Bunny. They will also team up as demon brothers who face off against a nun and pair of goth teens in order to break out of Hell in the stop-motion animated film Wendell and Wild. The film is directed by the iconic Henry Selick, produced by Netflix and expected to be released in late 2020 or early 2021.
In regards to starring in one of Jordan Peele’s buzzy horror projects, Keegan-Michael Key is game for that too! It would just depend on the script. Coming off the recent success of Us, Jordan Peele hasn’t announced another directorial project yet, but he will serve as a writer and producer on the Candyman reboot, to be directed by Nia DaCosta and star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Tony Todd.
Keegan-Michael Key also offered up this idea as well to Comicbook.com:
I'm certainly not adverse to us doing a Key and Peele film. Maybe a dramatic Key and Peele film of some ilk. I'm not sure what that would be, but of course, I'd love to work with Jordan.
It would be amazing to see the pair star in a movie together whether it be comedy or drama. Just keep working together! We’re game for any collaboration as well. However, Jordan Peele has expressed his commitment to the horror genre, recently saying he doesn’t see himself “moving far from horror anytime soon.”
Along with Keegan-Michael Key’s continued work with Jordan Peele, he’ll also be voicing a role in Netflix’s Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance series and the John Cena-led family comedy Playing With Fire.
